SPOILER ALERT
Finally, after a wait of 3 years Brahmāstra has hit the theatres. The star-studded multiverse venture revolving around our desi ‘astraverse’ do strikes the chords in various aspects but misses out on few.
Ayan Mukerji directorial begins with a bang but suffers pacing issues as the story moves forward. The narrative of the movie seems to be a too stretched after a certain point of time. For me 1st half of the seemed too much stretched, maybe because of the pacing issues and the bad timing of romance. The characters also somewhere lack the depth that we fail to connect with them. Isha’s character seems a bit off because of the lack of the backgrounder provided to the audience about the character. Same applies to the character of Junoon, what we know is that she exists in this movie and wants brahmastra.
The dialogues of the movie felt like they were written by noob intern. Making the senior most member of brahmansh say a dialogue like ‘Ja Shiva aag laga de’ wasn’t necessary. Hindi as a spoken language does sounds a bit dramatic but these dialogues made the movie divert from the concept of ‘showing more than telling’ and eventually starts spoon-feeding to the audience. The characters which were on my mind most of the time were that of Amrita and Dev rather than the protagonist of the movie.
The another drawback was the under utilisation of the potential of the cameos in the movie. Nagarjuna’s character could have been given a little more screen time. He VFX of the movie is something which kept me hooked to the screen. The background score of the movie is the another good about the film. Bollywood is trying to do different with its content is always a thumbs up from my side.
Overall, the movie was just a decent watch for me. It is a memorable cinematic experience for me because this movie does have the potential to change the fate of the upcoming Indian cinema project/the content which the industry is gonna produce in the coming time.
The sequel of the movie can be a game changer for this trilogy if done right.
I hope you like this review and do keep a check on this space for reviews and write ups. Till then, keep watching movies…
